Note that this is with no receipt and no old battery which is still in the other car at home. Sears looks up our battery purchase in their database and says, "You have a month to go on the warranty, so here is a free battery." Later, spouse takes OTHER car to Sears and asks, "Remember that last battery we bought, it has failed.
